Our RADAR disabled toilet lockset is designed to provide controlled access to accessible toilet facilities through the National Key Scheme (NKS), helping disabled users independently access public toilets while reducing misuse and vandalism. The lockset is suitable for accessible washrooms in public buildings, workplaces, schools, healthcare environments and leisure facilities.
Originally developed through Disability Rights UK, formerly RADAR (The Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation), the National Key Scheme allows specially manufactured toilet locks to be operated using a RADAR key. The system provides independent access to accessible facilities while helping maintain clean, functional washrooms by limiting unauthorised use.
This 5th generation lockset is supplied with a 6 lever mortice lock, engraved door furniture, external occupied/vacant indicator, emergency coin release and one blue heart comfort key. Designed as a retrofit replacement for existing RADAR locksets, it allows upgrades or replacement without requiring alterations to the door preparation.
The lockset features a reversible latch bolt suitable for inward or outward opening doors and can be easily reversed by removing the front plate and turning the latch. From outside, the door can be opened using a RADAR key when the external indicator displays white. Once inside, lifting the lever secures the lock and changes the indicator to red. On exit, pushing the lever down unlocks the door and returns the indicator to white.
To support accessible design guidance, the lockset includes a return to door safety lever handle and colour contrast vinyl surround to assist visually impaired users. For compliance with BS8300, lever handles should be installed between 800mm and 1050mm above floor level, with 1000mm preferred.
